So a couple weekends ago Sherry from Young House Love and a few other bloggers did a Pinterest Challenge. Where they all worked over the weekend to put there own spin on something that they had pinned. I thought it was a great idea and wanted to do the same challenge. Except I was busy busy busy that weekend and did not have the time. So today I sat down and did it. This is what I had pinned...

I've come across a couple tutorials on-line for Faux Zinc Letters. Like these from Anthropologie. I have always loved those letters but for $98 a pop it's just not a realistic purchase. I never even would have thought to do a faux version with paint. So when I saw the tutorial for it I got a little giddy. Out of all the tutorials that I found I thought the one over on KFD Designs was the best. So I went with that. We have a wedding gift to give so I grabbed a large cardboard C from Joann's on sale for $2.99 (C for the married couple's last name). And here is how it turned out...                                                         

                   

I love it. It turned out just as I hoped it would. Of coarse the one in the pin is better but I still love this one. Now I want to make a few more to live at my house. Possibly in the kitchen? We'll see. The entire project cost around $6 (don't worry we gave them something else also). $6 is much more reasonable than $98. Did I mention I love it?

I'm Dying

Is this bed not the most amazing thing you have ever seen? What little girl wouldn't love sleeping in this beauty? Now if only I had $2,278.

Dresser Inspiration

If you have looked at my Pinterest Boards then you know that we will be giving two dressers a makeover sometime in the near future (hopefully). One we already have and one we are picking up this weekend that we found for $60 on Craigslist. The one in our bedroom no longer works for us and it seems a little juvenile. So we are going to give that one to the kiddos. It's been through a couple transformations already. It went from white with pastel stenciled butterflies, to a chocolate brown paint, to the dark stain it is now. I'm thinking we'll do something along the lines of these...

This one I found on Rearranged Design. I like them both, but envision doing mine in different colors. Maybe yellow or green? I like the orange but I feel like orange is more of a boy color. I need something a little more gender neutral. I like the turquoise in the top image a lot. The dresser we have is shaped similarly to both of these. Tall, four drawers, with clean lines. I'm most excited about this one because I think you can take a lot more risks with kids furniture to make them fun and funky. You can be a lot more creative. It will be really fun.

I'm having a harder time with the one for our room. It is a low dresser with six drawers. Three on each side. It too has very clean lines. The problem is Denny and I often don't agree on things. So far we both really like this one...

Found on Three Men and a Lady. I love this. I think I love it though because of the whole room. Grey and yellow is one of my favorite color combos. I'm not sure this will have the same effect on the dresser we have. This is much more ornate which makes it much more interesting. I think if we painted the dresser we have all yellow it might just look plain. I don't know. I do love it though.

Anyway I can't wait to share the before and afters with you guys. I have no idea when that will be seeing as though with in a week we will have a newborn. Hopefully it will be sooner than later though.

Under Construction

I'm trying really hard to get this blog all prettied up and organized better. So please excuse me while I'm moving things around and tweaking things here and there. Hopefully soon I'll have it just the way I want it. I've been working on labeling my posts better so that if you are looking for a specific post from the past it will be easier to find. However it's not the easiest task. Oh well it'll get there. I hope it will be an easier blog to navigate when I'm finished.

Remember this post about new bedding from a couple weeks ago? Imagine my excitment when I saw this photo on Apartment Therapy yesterday.

Kiki from Kiki Creates made this bedding. Amazing right? It is exactly what I envisioned when I saw that bedding on Urban Outfitters. All white with pops of color in the pillows. It is perfect! She did 4 big projects in this room for under $70. So impressive. I admire her skills.

Keep Calm Over Done?

There was a great post on Curbly yesterday about the Keep Calm and Carry On Posters that are often seen on design sites these days. Apparently some people think they are "So Over". I admit that I have seen my fair share of these posters in a variety of colors and variations on the internet but I have to say I still love them. Also I'd like to point out that much like the author of the Curbly post I have never actually seen one in person. A few weeks ago I saw this take on the classic British war time poster on the Etsy Shop Megalerie and I was smitten.

I love how it keeps the integrity of the slogan, but it gives it a new spin. It's refreshing. What do you think? Is it so over? Or do you still appreciate the history and meaning behind it? There are some great comments on that post you should take a look at if it is something that interests you.

Texture

I'm in the process of looking for new bedding for my bed. I'm thinking along the lines of plain white, but with texture. Then adding pops of color with the pillows & sheets. I love this duvet from Urban Outfitters. I think it might be towards the top of my list. Another good option is the Pintuck Duvet from West Elm (and on sale to boot!). I still feel like I have to make a trip to Home Goods and The Outlet Mall before I make my final decision.

Just because I love it

My Grandma had tissue box holders all over her house. I was lucky to get one when her house was cleaned out and sold. This tissue box is so cute it's even worthy of Granny...

Pretty Little Organizers

Since I'm in organization mode over here I've been making little mental notes of things I need that would help me in this undertaking. Of coarse it always helps if they are pretty.

We have mail issues over here. These mail hooks from Old New Again are perfect. If I had these next to my front door I would be infinitely happy.

I realized when I was sending out Christmas Cards this year that it sure would be helpful if I had an address file. This one is so bright and cheerful. You can feel good about it too knowing that it was made from recycled album covers. From Freestyle Gifts.

We have the dinkiest plastic desk organizers. No style at all. This one however has plenty of style! You can pick it up over at The Paper Source.

I love BIG calendars. Growing up my Aunt always kept a huge calendar on her kitchen door, and I was always amazed at how well she kept it up. I guess with 10 kids you really have to keep yourself organized. I love this one from Simple Shapes.

Baby Boys.

When I was pregnant with Miss. S I could have sworn that I was having a boy. I had a name picked out, bedding, artwork, everything. All for this little babe who I was sure to be a boy. It came as somewhat of a shock when the ultra sound came back saying I was having a sweet little girl. This time around I could have sworn I was having a girl. My instincts are way off.

Well now that I'm finally having the boy I thought I was having before all the things I had picked out are no longer available (Except the name). I really wanted this fantastic white ceramic owl lamp from Urban Outfitters. Gone. Great Japanese import fabric from Repro Depot. Gone. So I'm trying to figure out all that I want for this little guy's soon to be nursery. I have found one thing that I have to have.

The Long Bellied Russian Red

My Husband has a real thing for Red Dragons. Always has. I think it will be a good jumping off point. I'm not big on theme rooms. In fact I can't stand them. So the whole room will not be a dragon theme but this little guy will have to be incorporated some how.
