New Fabric Choices

I can no longer find the fabric I had chosen to make the bedding for this little guy. It's all gone. I can find it in pink, but not in blue. It was sad. So I had to go back to the drawing board. I'm not going to work on the bumper for a little while since he will be in the pack & play in our room at first, but I am dying to make him a blanket. So I ordered these prints today, and sometime in the next couple weeks I'll show you guys the finished blanket. I can't wait. It's by Ann Kelle from her Remix line.
I love how bright and cheerful the prints are. I'm pretty sure I'm going to use the Chevron Print on the outside of the bumper, and for the inside I'll use either a yellow or light green polka dot. Compared to the last fabric this is much more colorful, but I'm a sucker for a chevron stripe. This way I also have a lot of color options to use through out his room.

An Experiment

Today I'm experimenting with Rit Dye. I've only dyed fabric once before. For Miss. S's Halloween costume this past year. I have to admit it wasn't the best attempt. It worked because it was for the t-shirt she wore under her cute pumpkin costume. So the flaws were all well hidden. However I was disappointed with the attempt and I really wanted to give it another go. Since I have this little guy coming into my life shortly I thought I would try it out again with some baby onesies. There are so many fun things you can do if you know how to properly dye fabric. Beyond tie dying (because I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon). So I really want to learn how to do it. So that is what I'm figuring out today. I'll be back tomorrow with the results. Hopefully it's better than last time.
Attempt Number 1. The pumpkin Halloween costume. I dyed a hanes white cotton t-shirt we already had orange with the powder Rit Dye. As you can see only the arms are visible. The body however was a little splotchy. I could tell that not all the powder dissolved. So I know to be more careful this time around.

Baby Boy Fabric

I was worried about finding fabric for this little guys bedding. I kept finding really cute options for girls, but I really had to search for boy's fabric that met all my criteria. This is what I've decided on for the main fabric.
They have this same scallop pattern with a little green in it too. It's super cute but I think I'll stick with the blue and grey. I feel like it's neutral enough to mix and match with other colors around the room and not look disjointed. My Mom is probably looking at this and rolling her eyes. She doesn't understand my love of grey. What's even worse for her is I really want to find a grey polka dot fabric for one of the accents. Maybe the crib skirt. Sorry Mom. I'm excited to get it and get cracking on his bumper.
